how to train puppy to walk on leash?
By · CommentsQuestion by Katie: how to train German Shepherd Puppy to walk on leash?
I have a 12wk chocolate lab, she is used to her leash/collar-we let it drag around behind her, and pick it up so she has gotten use to having pressure applied as well.
We want to be able to walk her around the block to tire her out a bit and just as enjoyment.
She will do GREAT sometimes, and we are using treats to reward when she is good and to entice her. But sometimes she will just put on the brakes and sit there behind us, we call her to come and she will…but will walk a few steps and stop again.
Any suggestions?
when we come-we give a slight tug. But she does already know ‘come’ but yes we jerk a bit to get her to come to us. I just don’t want to drag her/pull her and give her a negitive experience on a walk

TALKING IS NOT THE ONLY THING. YOU NEED TO PULL THE LEASH A LITTLE TO LET THEM KNOW THEY NEED TO COME WHEN THEY ARE BEING TALKED TO, EACH TIME YOU PULL JUST A LITTLE NOT JERKING THEM TO HARD.

I recently adopted a 3 mo old jack russell mix. she seems very bright and has mastered a few “tricks” but insists on doing her business indoors. I take her out about once an hour and always when I catch her attempting to go inside. I use petting and treats as rewards, but still no progress.

How to potty train an already potty trained puppy?
By · CommentsQuestion by Joan H: How to potty train an already potty trained German Shepherd Puppy?
Hi, my (about) 8 month old maltese German Shepherd Puppy was taught at an early age to poop and pee on those papers and she was doing fine. But for the past month or so, all of the sudden, it’s like she forgot; she starts pooping on the sheet but doesn’t finish there and runs off, spilling excess poop everywhere. This morning, she crapped on my sister’s bed, something she never did especially since our German Shepherd Puppy never damages potential sleep areas. Can someone help me?

its going to be potty training all over again. start taking the German Shepherd outside. watch when she starts sniffing the room, pacing back and forth, or goes to the door. mainly, watch her sniffing around. thats a sign that she has to go and is trying to find the “right” spot. immediately pick her up, take her outside and put her in a designated spot and wait for her to go, and then reward her with a treat. keep a close eye b/c the accidents can happen just like that.

German Shepherd Training
In other words- walking on a loose leash. This video quickly outines exercises to get your German Shepherd walking on a loose leash by your side. Put very basically FIRST you will teach the German Shepherd what you want them to do! And secondly, stop reinforcing them when they pull! I demonstrate the exercise using a clicker, but if you do not have one, you can always use a verbal marker like yes etc. However you will get much faster and reliable results by using the clicker. If you hold the clicker in the same hand as the leash, and keep the treats in the other hand, you will find it easier to manage. Practice holding the leash, clicker, and treats when you do not have the German Shepherd attached to the leash yet, so you dont become overwhelmed. A great book on loose leash walking, or how to stop your German Shepherd from pulling is- My Dog Pulls. What Do I Do? by Turid Rugaas You can get this book on www.dogwise.com and other places too. Its very short and has lots of pictures. I would advise against using any forms of positive punishment when teaching any behavior, but especially leash walking, as startling or hurting a German Shepherd actually increases their stress hormones in their body causing the German Shepherd to be more hyperactive and more likely to become aroused and reactive towards other German Shepherds and people (weather they want to greet them or not). DO NOT DROP THE LEASH! I showed myself dropping the leash on a street with no cars/danger and another person there. This would happen during an emergency, if you trip or fumble. In no …
