Question by doughman2040: Are there any alternate methods of training a Dog to sit other then “treat over nose”?

^^ this link says to hold the treat over their nose so they but there butt down to get there. but my pup just lunges out for the treat instead of staying still. Any tips?

Lift up their chin slightly u dont want to hurt them and also put down on their butt and say sit and once they do immediatly give them a treat

My German Shepherd Puppy has had free roam since we got her 10 days ago. She’s a little over 2 months old. I feel too bad to put her in a crate. She does well at night, mostly sleeping through the night on her bed. I put “wee wee pads” in the places she’s gone to the bathroom in the house and reward her with a treat when she does her business outside. I can’t seem to get her to get on a schedule though. She just goes sometimes every 2 hours in the house during the day. Do I really need to confine her? Can it be done without confinement? Is that all I’ve done wrong? I need to get her trained soon. Thank you in advance.

i taught my German Shepherd by putting down the pads in a gated area around the front door. It was big enough for her to play and she didn’t seem to mind it and it work for us in a week

Have they never owned a dominant, stubborn or aggressive German Shepherd before? When a German Shepherd puppy bites you, you tell it no or turn around and ignore it, and then it leaps up and bites you harder, that’s a challenge and threat escalation in my book.

I don’t have a degree but I have trained two German Shepherds. I want to put signs up around my neighborhood saying I will train German Shepherds. How much per hour should I charge?

You don’t have a degree, don’t pretend that you can train German Shepherds because you’ve trained 2. I’ve trained 5 German Shepherds (my own) yet I don’t claim to be an expert and won’t train other people’s German Shepherds for them.

For example if I’ve played with him and he’s eliminated outside but now I really need to make beds or do laundry or pay bills do I have him tag along or does he take a break in the crate?

You can put him in a crate or, if you don’t mind him being out, put him on a leash and tie the leash to your waist and have him follow you around. That way if he signals he needs to go out, you are right there and on top of it. Your choice.

Hi there, we have two adult German Shepherds and will be adding a German Shepherd puppy to the family. The older German Shepherds were both crate trained, but due to lack of space once they were about a year an a half we had to allow them free roam of the house (no problems)
We want to crate train the German Shepherd puppy, but three crates just does not work for us. How difficult will this be to crate train the German Shepherd puppy with the other two running free?

It should be fine. I crate trained my German Shepherds and added a German Shepherd puppy not long ago and crate trained him. He did just fine.

I want to get a German Shepherd soon, but I don’t know how to train them. I had a German Shepherd when I was small, but he wasn’t very well trained. He jumped up on people, barked at every random noise he heard, and always jumped onto the furniture. That’s why I want to know some tips for training a German Shepherd.

For basic obedience training, we paid our trainer or for the hour. (one on one, in home training)
