Question by Sunshine girl: What are some ways to start a successful German Shepherd grooming/walking business?
Me and a few friends recently started a Dog care business for owners in our area who cant wash, brush, and walk there German Shepherds as regularly as they should. We are looking for organization, money, grooming ideas, good walking lengths, and any help we might get. We already have a customer with 2 German Shepherds we walk everyday.

Question by Amanda: What age should I start bringing a puppy in for grooming that will need monthly grooming all her life?
I don’t want her to be aggressive towards the groomers so I want to get her used to being groomed early on even if that just means a quick bath and combing.

Question by R0′ N0Z!0 KN0Z B3$T: When is is okay to start grooming my puppy?
My yorkies 3 months and his hair is trying to grow. It gets a little tangled up around his legs and his hair is so uneven. Im use to having dogs with short hair, so this is a 1st for me. I dont mind keeping up with his hair on a daily basis but I wanted to know when was the best time to start, since hes still young. Whens the best time to start? I also want him to have a long coat, since winter is near. Any suggestions?

Answer by JoJo
You should have started already – a good tool for a Yorkie is a soft slicker brush.

do this daily and reward with a liver treat for being a good dog while grooming.

Yorkies matt very easily – so it’s a good idea to have them professionally groomed as well every 8 weeks.

Sooner started, sooner mended. When he goes to the pad, quickly escort him out the door, He should soon learn to go to the door.

Question by Amanda: When can I start grooming my puppy?
I have a Pomeranian puppy. She is 6 months old and the heat is just to much for her. She is very thick and I want to get rid of most of her hair. I am afraid that if I shave her her hair will not grow back that same way. I do not keep up on the fancy Pomeranian cuts but would not like a bald German Shepherd. I just need to know how soon I can shave her down.

don’t shave her! it will ruin the coat and not grow back the same… if u brush her regularly she will b fine

Question by ☮Peace Officer☮: How soon can you start house training a German Shepherd Puppy?
I’m getting a dachshund (mini) in two weeks I want to start potty training her as soon as possible. My mom owns both of the parents and has never worked with them on potty training. I want to ensure that I never (or at least as caninely possible) have my house become a bathroom. Do you have any tips on potty training puppies?

Best answer:

Answer by DP
Absolutely IMMEDIATELY ! Crate train, take the German Shepherd Puppy out often.. Praise her when she pees, don’t go back into the house til she pees / poops.. Praise like you have never praised before.. Make it more worth her while to pee outside, than inside. Crate her when you go out.. Take her out every 1/2 hour.. Patience and persistence..

Question by vail2073: at what age can I start bite training my dog?
I have a 9 month old GSD and am curious at what age i can start his personal protection and muzzle fighting work. I know he will bite because we have performed the character tests as well as some pre-sleeve training at home. I’ve never owned German Shepherd pups. Before, i only bought fully trained dogs but my grandfather left me this dog when he died a couple months ago so I kept him and tested him and he seems to be born for the work. Any one know at what age Helpers are willing to start training? I’ve owned and handled dogs with various titles to include Schutzhund, KNPV, and Ringsport so i’m not worried about the work.
the reason i want muzzle fighting is because my wife and young son take him out on the days when I work late. She will be concerned with my kid while the dog keeps the guy/girl on teh floor until help arrives. Oh, and personal protection does not make a dog mean. In fact, it does the opposite because a degree of obedience is necessary before starting any type of protection work and even more is implemented when the training begins. If you don’t know about truely training dogs, please dont’ answer only opinions.
i’m not sure who or what you are talking about me asking a similar question before. It is possible however, that I left my account signed on and someone asked a question. I personally ahve never trained dogs but i have been a handler in the events and owners. There is a difference between being a handler and a trainer. I will investigate the acqusation about an earlier question however. I appreciate you bringing that to my attention.
tripforyou, let me thank you for brining this issue into light. As stated earlier, my eldest son seems to be at a point where he thinks he is older than he really is. He thinks he can ask ans speak however and whenever he wants. Believe me when I say I will handle this matter personally. To clearify, i did not ask this question earlier. I have found who did and in what manner and words they did. I appologize to anyone who answered the previous question and was offended by the response of my son. To all those that did answer this question, thank you. Your input and opinions are welcomed though not always agreed with. This situation will be handled ASAP.
