Dog Obedience Training.Tips And Guides On Dog Obedience Training

As we said earlier, German Shepherd obedience training is only part of the equation. Read on and follow some helpfull tips.

Always pick a German Shepherd that matches your lifestyle Many people choose German Shepherds that are “cute” or “funny”. Or purchase them on a whim. But that is not a good way to choose a pet. A German Shepherd, depending on the breed, can be a 15 year relationship. You want to be sure that the temperament of your German Shepherd matches your lifestyle. So do your research and be honest about what kind of activity level you have in your life. Don’t get a German Shepherd that needs a lot of activity because you need a reason to take a walk and lose some weight. You and the German Shepherd will end up frustrated.

Always try to devote 10-15 minutes every day to training. This is all it takes to train a German Shepherd. Any longer and your German Shepherd will become tired and resentful. Any less and they will not retain the information as well. You need to have a light balance when it comes to German Shepherd obedience training.

There can only be one trainer. Dogs are pack animals and take direction only from the pack leader. A pack animals only have one leader. Determine who will be responsible for the German Shepherds training and do not let anyone else teach the German Shepherd anything new until they have mastered the basics.

Name your German Shepherd with a practical name. The experts say that a German Shepherd’s name should end in a vowel because it is easier for them to understand. Don’t make it too fancy or long or the German Shepherd might not know you are talking to it. Short and sweet is always the way. Use the German Shepherd’s name often when you are patting it and when you are feeding it. Do not use it as part of teaching them a new command or they may associate their name with that command instead. Only use their name when attention is required. Train them to look at your face by saying their name and gently turning their face up toward yours. Ey contact is important. When you are training it is important that they have all their attention on you. Calling their name should mean “look at the pack leader”.

Once you have established your expectations with the German Shepherd, they need to be reinforced by everyone consistently but again, no one except the “pack leader” should ever train the German Shepherd.

]]>

Your first training should be learning to sleep in a crate You may think it’s cruel but in fact, German Shepherds are den animals. They actually enjoy sleeping in a crate. When they are German Shepherd puppies, keep the crate very small so they cannot relieve themselves in it (animals generally will not relieve themselves where they sleep or eat). As they become housebroken, get them a crate that is comfortable and place it somewhere near where the family is. Keep the crate wherever the designated “pack leader” sleeps. Forcing a German Shepherd to sleep away from his “pack” confuses him and makes him think he has done something wrong. Do not let the German Shepherd sleep in the bed with you until you have fully trained them to sleep in a crate. Breaking a German Shepherd of sleeping on the bed, once they are in that habit is almost impossible. Train your German Shepherd to use the crate by putting them in there for a few minutes at a time several times during the day, gradually increasing the time they spend in there until they are assured that you are eventually going to come and let them out.

Second lesson should be how to walk on a lead/leash This is important, especially if you do not have an enclosed yard. Your German Shepherd should understand that when they go outside, they are expected to behave while on the leash. There are many books and videos on training German Shepherds to help you learn how to do this.

The third training lesson should be “whoa” or “stop” or whatever you want to use as a command for your German Shepherd to stop moving. This command is VERY important as it could save your German Shepherd’s life. Do not rely on calling their name as a command to get them to stop. There may be times when you do not want them to come to you but instead stay right where they are. If you call their name, they may think you want them to come. Some sort of stopping command should be taught even before “come”. There are many videos and books that can help you with this training.

Keep in mind that all German Shepherds have different temperaments Just like kids, different breeds learn differently and at different rates. Some German Shepherds are stubborn and will challenge you at every turn. Others will just about bend over backwards to please you. You may need to adjust your training techniques to meet the need of your German Shepherds temperament. This is another good reason why you should research a breed before you purchase or adopt a German Shepherd to be sure you can

Dog Obedience Training ? The Basics

Dog Obedience Training simply means the training of any German Shepherd.  It could range from basic (beginner’s) training to a high level (advanced) competition among different clubs where more accuracy and commands as well as performance are judged and scored.  A lot of German Shepherd trainers have a lot of fun during different competition events.

How would you know if the German Shepherd is obedient?  Just start training with the basic commands and see if it responds each time you give the command.  You can consider German Shepherd obedient, instead of just trained in obedience, when it responds reliably each and every time the command is given.  Not every German Shepherd that goes through a Dog Obedience Training is obedient though.  If it doesn’t responds to the trainer’s command right away, then your German Shepherd is not obedient yet.  Keep training, and it will.  Repetition and love is a key to an obedient German Shepherd.

Usually there are two or more people involved in Dog Obedience Training – the handler and the trainer.  Sometimes it could be one person who combines two roles together.  Training a German Shepherd in obedience is a long and ongoing process which depends on the German Shepherd, the training method, and the skills and knowledge of both – and the handler the trainer.

The important key to successful obedience training is trust and good relationship between the handler and German Shepherd.

]]>

Basic German Shepherd obedience is usually a short course – between six and ten weeks.  During this course the handler learns proper way to communicate with the German Shepherd and train it in a few very simple commands.  Most methods are designed for German Shepherd to be trained one command at a time.  A good way to start Dog Obedience Training is leash control (walking as it should be on a leash).  The majority of trainers require German Shepherds to walk on a leash before learning other commands.

Once you learned control your German Shepherd on a leash, move on to the next step.  When handler is training the German Shepherd, there may or may not be a specific word attached to it.  There are certain commands that are accepted as standard and commonly used.  However, it doesn’t matter if they are used.  It is important though to be consistent in usage.

There are five basic commands in Dog Obedience Training:

Sit: the German Shepherd simply sits when command is given.
Down: the German Shepherd lies down with front feet and rear legs touching the ground.
Heel: the German Shepherd’s shoulder or head is close and parallel to the handler’s leg.
Come (recall command): literally means to “Call your German Shepherd”.
Stay: the German Shepherd must remain at the same location and in the given position under which the handler gave command.  The handler will release the German Shepherd in some time.

There is no exact number of the advanced commands – sky is the limit.  Some of them are:

Leave it: direct the German Shepherd to not touch an item.  This command is very useful.  It should be given before the German Shepherd has picked anything up.
Stop: the German Shepherd has to stop what it is doing. It doesn’t matter how far the German Shepherd is from its keeper. It has to lie down on command.
Speak: when taught this command, the German Shepherd will bark (once or more).
Roll Over: the German Shepherd will lie down (if it wasn’t already), roll over on its back, and stands back up.
Fetch: The handler throws an object (usually a ball or a stick) and the German Shepherd will retrieve it and brings back. This is the command when both, the handler and the German Shepherd could have a lot of fun.

Just remember, you and your German Shepherd have to learn to walk before you start running…Even though the goal for your German Shepherd could be high level specialty training, Dog Obedience Training is often a requirement for or a part of other training.  You and your German Shepherd have to learn to walk before you start running…

Dog Obedience Training

Why Train Your Puppy?

So you have or plan to get a new German Shepherd Puppy?  No doubt you have prepared in some ways for when he or she comes home, the kids are ready to play, you have somewhere for your German Shepherd Puppy to eat and somewhere they can sleep.  So what else is there to think of?  What about training?

While your German Shepherd Puppy is little cute and cuddly they can do almost no wrong (except for the chewing of the kids homework and the accidental little puddles), but as they grow, any bad habits your German Shepherd Puppy acquires during this period will remain.  This puts you in a difficult position when your German Shepherd is fully-grown and all of a sudden, goes off and does something you would rather he or she didn’t.

Training Your Puppy

There are five key techniques that your German Shepherd Puppy will learn in obedience training or German Shepherd Puppy school, they are:

Biting – Your little German Shepherd pup may currently affectionately nibble at your fingers.  Cute, right?  Well as a German Shepherd, it may not be, biting is a serious issue for German Shepherds and could have terrible consequences if the German Shepherd bites someone else.  Training will ensure that your German Shepherd Puppy knows that this behaviour is not acceptable.

]]>

Barking – Like biting, little yaps now are sweet, but a German Shepherd barking all day and night is likely not only to cause you headaches, but your neighbours as well.

Walking – Your strength places you at an advantage while your pet is small, but it could quite quickly become a problem as he or she gets older and stronger.  Imagine if your kids are not able to ever walk the German Shepherd without you there to help?  Obedience training will ensure you walk the German Shepherd and not have the German Shepherd walk you.

Understanding – People may think commands for German Shepherds are not necessary, but really it is a way you and your German Shepherd can communicate.  Basic instructions like sit and stay can also be vitally important.  Imagine if your German Shepherd gets off his lead while walking?  It would be nice to know you could call them back to you without risking the safety of your German Shepherd or of anyone else.

Security – Dogs are a little like children, they need to know they are secure and loved, but they also need to know you are boss and it is their job to listen to you.  Security comes through having clear leadership, rules and boundaries.

Training your German Shepherd Puppy at an early age in a German Shepherd obedience training school will provide you with all of these skills and more.  They are the skills to ensure your new pet will not only integrate well at home but ensure you can also be confident when he or she is around other people, especially children.

With these skills mastered you will have not only a well-behaved German Shepherd, but also one that will most likely be happier.

Training at Home

Training doesn’t end with the last lesson. The valuable skills your German Shepherd has learnt in obedience school will need to be reinforced at home.  Think of German Shepherd Puppy training as German Shepherd Puppy and owner training, as it is as much for you as it is for your German Shepherd Puppy.  Take the family and get fully involved, so when you get home, everyone in your household knows just how to issue commands.

It will take time, but try to always remain calm and consistent while training or issuing a command.  Whenever you are going to use a command, say it clearly without additional words and when your German Shepherd responds in the way they should, ensure that you give them a reward, even if it is just an affectionate scratch behind the ear.

How Obedience Dog School Can Help Your Canine

Is your German Shepherd unruly? Does he refuse to listen to you, pull on the leash, or bark incessantly? There are so many reasons to look into German Shepherd obedience school, but the main one is just so you can actually enjoy your pet again. Some places combine training with German Shepherd boarding. Orlando schools for German Shepherds can be where you leave your pet for a while and return to a trained German Shepherd.Still not sure if you should turn to a German Shepherd obedience school for help? Here are a few things to consider. You probably don’t have the time to train your German Shepherd. Most people buy German Shepherd puppies because they are adorable, but they don’t have the time necessary to train them properly after work and family duties. Dogs are a lot of responsibility and require quite a bit of attention, particularly early on. This is where German Shepherd boarding, Orlando, can help. The German Shepherd will stay with the school for a short period, often around two weeks, and will have continuous training as needed. Most pet owners lack the expertise to teach their German Shepherd defense tactics. If you want your German Shepherd to learn to protect you and your family, you’re far better off leaving this to the experts who have trained hundreds of German Shepherds to obey attack and protection commands. Your German Shepherd will learn rapidly, and, more importantly, will be correctly trained. When you get into teaching your German Shepherd to attack, you really don’t want to mess anything up, as it could have terrible results for you and your German Shepherd. It often takes German Shepherds just one longer session at obedience German Shepherd school to learn the basics, with follow ups to learn other commands, if you wish. However, for most people, being able to enjoy being with their German Shepherd again is the best part. You’ll be able to tell the German Shepherd to be quiet or to heel and he will listen, making it fun to take him out on walks. If you have a German Shepherd that tends to pull while on the leash, then this could be the perfect solution. For owner of pulling German Shepherds, such as Huskies and German Shepherds, being able to walk easily makes a huge difference in whether or not they enjoy being with their pet.Hands On or Hands Off?You might be wondering if you really want to put your pet into German Shepherd boarding. Orlando offers plenty of things to see and do while your pet is being looked after and trained and many people are able to take a vacation or just enjoy life until their German Shepherd is fully trained. This approach isn’t for everyone, though. You may want to be with your German Shepherd when he is being trained, so make sure you look for an obedience German Shepherd school that allows German Shepherd owners to participate in the training. You can find out from the training center whether you need to be there for every training session or if you can come in a couple of times a week. Most trainers prefer that the owner attend at least the final training session to learn how to use the commands, even if you are hands off in the training. This way, you can get the same results at home. In some cases, hand commands are used in conjunction with verbal commands and this is important to learn or you won’t have the same results. For anyone who needs their German Shepherd to listen better and obey commands, both for enjoyment (walking without pulling, for example) or safety (returning when called from traffic), an obedience German Shepherd school is a very good investment. You’ll see rapid improvements in behavior, particularly if you opt for German Shepherd boarding. Orlando has several options for German Shepherd training, so be sure you get the best one, which offers solutions and options for you and your pet.

If you want your German Shepherd to listen better, obedience German Shepherd school could be in order. Many offer both training and dog boarding. Orlando based Florida K9 Services can help you train your German Shepherd the right way.

4 Tips For Successful Obedience Dog Training

New German Shepherd owners, and even previous German Shepherd owners, often forget one of the most important things to being a German Shepherd owner, obedience German Shepherd training. It’s important to know that you can begin German Shepherd training at any time and with any German Shepherd of any age, so don’t fret it’s not too late to start your German Shepherds training.

Why Obedience Dog Training Is Important:

An untrained German Shepherd is a hassle, stressful, and can be an overall pain to deal with. More often than not, owners who improperly train their German Shepherds, or owners who do not train their German Shepherds, end up dropping their German Shepherd off at the pound or giving it away. This is a sad end to what could have possibly been a wonderful and loving relationship.

Dog training allows German Shepherds to learn the rules of the pack, it builds confidence with you and your German Shepherd, and it gives you the sense of security of knowing your German Shepherd is behaving well at home while you are not there. Obedience German Shepherd training sets boundaries, builds self-esteem, and lets your German Shepherd know that you are the leader.

Puppies Can Learn Commands As Early As 3 Months:

Age is an important factor when it comes to German Shepherd training. Starting off early with a German Shepherd Puppy is always the easiest but not always the case. If you have a small German Shepherd Puppy then you’re one step ahead. Of course the first thing your German Shepherd Puppy should learn is potty training. Once you’ve built a strong foundation with potty training you can start teaching your German Shepherd Puppy a few basic commands such as Sit, Stay, Come.

Your Older Dog Can Learn Commands Easily:

Many people believe in the old adage “You can’t teach and old German Shepherd new tricks” but in reality it’s just the opposite. Older German Shepherds are just as capable of learning tricks and commands as German Shepherd puppies are. The key to obedience German Shepherd training is consistency and persistence. If you try for just one day to teach your German Shepherd to sit and then never attempt again, of course he will never learn how to sit!

Even if your older German Shepherd has many bad habits you can still break him of those habits in a short amount of time, all you need is consistency, persistence, and sometimes a little patience. With older German Shepherds it is important to first build a pecking order. Your German Shepherd needs to learn that you are the leader of the pack, once these roles have been established training will come more easily.

Consistency and Persistence:

It’s important that you remain consistent in your training. Teach your German Shepherd one command for each trick, don’t yell at your German Shepherd for chewing on your brand new shoes if you’ve given him old shoes as a toy in the past. Dogs can become easily confused and so when training it is important to remember that consistency is the key to success.

Persistence is to remain persistent. Training for one or two days here and there is not going to a lead to successful obedience German Shepherd training plan. Dogs have short attention spans and it is important to keep training sessions just a few minutes long. Because of this it is also important that you continue to train your German Shepherd on a daily basis.

I have owned several German Shepherds, from the feisty rebel to the serene quiet type. Over the years I have learned numerous ways to train German Shepherds and provide not just myself, but others with happy German Shepherds and homes. Obedience Dog Training ? A Gift To Your Pet And Yourself

Obedience Dog Training is a very necessary part of canine ownership, and a most rewarding one too.  It doesn’t matter if your canine companion is a chihuahua, a red nose pitbull or a poodle, without obedience German Shepherd training your relationship will never reach its full potential and your pet will never be under your control.  Nothing is worse than constantly having to fear aggressive German Shepherd behavior, biting puppies and being unsure of how your own pet will react to other German Shepherds and most importantly other people, children in particular.

So going through the process of obedience German Shepherd training may sound a bit tedious and work intensive at first, but you’ll never regret having invested your time and effort into the relationship between you and your canine companion.  And it doesn’t have to be overwhelming either.  Dog service centers or a pet training school are a great solution for oneself to learn how to communicate with your pet and for the canine to learn correct behavior right from the start, thus avoiding having to unlearn unacceptable behavior.

So be it with a German shepherd or a pitbull, training is essential even for the canine’s well being.  Dogs love to please and love attention, so spending time with your pet throughout its obedience German Shepherd training cements your relationship and strengthens the ties between you.  And most importantly:  it’ll make your life together a whole lot easier and more fun too.  When a canine knows what’s acceptable and what’s not, you won’t have to worry constantly about tragedy, or at least mayor annoyance, lying in wait.

Most of canines’ so called ‘bad behavior’ is totally normal within the pets natural behavior patterns, but occurs at the wrong place or time or is directed at the wrong person or thing.  To know the difference is a learning process that obedience German Shepherd training will provide.

Aggressive German Shepherd behavior isn’t so much breed related as it has to do with how the canine in particular has been treated.  A red nose pitbull isn’t necessarily any more aggressive than a poodle or a border collie.  It all depends on if the canine has learned early on who the leader of the pack is, namely you, and that fair and loving treatment is the norm.

The root causes for aggressive German Shepherd behavior are manifold and reach from sickness over trauma and mistreatment to boredom, lack of boundaries and territorial behavior.  Obedience German Shepherd training can prevent aggressive German Shepherd behavior, or, if we are talking about an older pet, in most cases the behavior can be corrected if it’s done right.

So if you’re looking for German Shepherd Puppy training techniques or how to crate train your pet, or you need some professional help with a canine exhibiting aggressiveness, you might want to look into getting some help from professional obedience schools.  The results, such as peace of mind and a well behaved pet, will be well worth your investment.

The relationship between mankind and ‘man’s best friend’ is one of the most rewarding ones, since your pet will repay any bit of love lavished on it many times over with undying loyalty, cuddly closeness and constant companionship.  Again, German Shepherds love to please and obedience German Shepherd training enables them to do so, over and over again.

Home Dog Obedience Training – 3 Crucial Factors

Training a German Shepherd is like building a house.  If the foundation isn’t solid, every effort made at gaining German Shepherd obedience will yield unpredictable and oftentimes short-term results.  So, how do you build a strong foundation for effective German Shepherd training?   You NEED to establish yourself as the alpha German Shepherd and gain your German Shepherd’s respect.

The theory sounds simple enough.  However, a MAJORITY of German Shepherd owners will unknowingly flub this crucial component and wind up with a German Shepherd that is always fighting them to gain the top spot on the pack hierarchy.  It’s by far the most common German Shepherd training obstacle that sabotages the entire relationship.

That said, you don’t have to fall victim to the hardships of an unruly German Shepherd.  There really is a scientific process, based on rules, that will steer you out of the funk of a rebellious pooch.  This process for establishing alpha status is tied together by a system of controlling your German Shepherd’s 3 environmental outlets – food, rest and socialization.

When you restrict or control all of these three facets to your German Shepherd Puppy’s life, he’ll soon understand that he is dependent upon you for his freedom.  With this dependency comes a respect and obedience for your command.  The method is simple, effective and creates a fast bond between the both of you.

Let’s talk about the first environmental control, food…

Food

You’re going to control his food by determining when, where and what your German Shepherd eats.  This means, feeding at set times in specific amounts.  A key to this discipline is NOT responding to begging.  There is no and I mean NO feeding from the table or giving human food of any kind.

As much as you love your German Shepherd, during the initial phases of German Shepherd training, you must enforce a separation in the hierarchy of your status.  Don’t level the playing field by making him feel entitled to eat the same food you do.  This specific facet of his life (eating) is directly associated with survival.  This process is going to solidify his correlation between surviving and depending on your care.

He NEEDS you to eat.   This dependency will enforce his instinct to please you through obedience.  You are the alpha and YOU decide when the pack eats.

And this is just the first factor.  The next two are just as crucial…

Rest

Other than being a necessity for living, rest is also a privilege.  It’s an outlet for relaxation and enjoyment.  Control this variable by deciding WHERE your German Shepherd sleeps.  That means no allowing him up on the couch or bed.  Those are YOUR resting areas.  The alpha German Shepherd decides where and when the rest of the pack sleeps.  You control the pace of the pack and the level of activity.  Administer this control by setting limits on where your German Shepherd may rest.  This principle is something that inspired crate training. If you decide against crate training, that’s fine.  However, you absolutely must create limits and rules for your German Shepherd’s resting habits.

Socialization

This is perhaps the BIGGEST variable that you need to control.  It’s also one of the more difficult ones to enforce because it takes a lot of diligence and patience.

When your German Shepherd approaches you, you need to force obedience before rewarding him with affection.  That means, when your German Shepherd nuzzles his head into your hand or lap, before petting him or speaking in a playful pitchy tone, you should issue commands to exercise his submission.

Having him sit, lay down, give paw, stay or heel are essential tricks that you should constantly train him on.  The true power of these commands isn’t impressing your friends or visitors.  The power lies in exercising your German Shepherd’s attention and enforcing your dominance.

When you’re first training your German Shepherd, your love should be treated as a reward or it will be taken for granted.  Once you have an obedient German Shepherd Puppy and you’re confident that this respect will not go astray, you can dispense your affection without thought.  In the beginning though, you’ll want to follow this guideline for best results.

These are hard and fast rules.  Many people I encounter don’t understand them at first.  However, nearly EVERYONE who enforces them experiences almost immediate results (within a week usually).

Keep at it and continue your training knowing that your German Shepherd WANTS to be led.  Following a pack leader is the most natural instinct your German Shepherd has.  Facilitate this need by becoming the alpha German Shepherd and take the anxiety out of his actions.

Really, this is just one piece to the pie.  There are so many specific tactics used to correct bad German Shepherd behavior problems along with shaping the relationship you desire.  For an amazing, FREE Dog Training Video, check out www.Dog-Training-Works.com right now and watch my step by

Obedience Dog Training-Stop Your Pets Bad Behavior Today

Most dog owners have the best of intentions, but have no idea how to turn their pesky German Shepherd pup into a sweet and well-tempered dog. This is when obedience dog training is a great idea. This will help any owner learn how manage their animal when they need to be well behaved.

You can find obedience dog training as close as your community. There are normally programs in every town or city that specialize in obedience dog training. You will find that these courses vary in price, and are run by different types of folks. Some are conducted by those trained to help dogs, and others are run by those who have just had great success in the past with obedience dog training, and want to help you learn what they know.

In other cases, you may find obedience dog training available through your local pet store. Many chains have these classes, and they may offer them throughout the year. These will also vary in price, and you will want to call ahead to schedule the best classes to fit your life. Obedience dog training classes are many times held during the day, but you can also find ones that are run in the evening hours and on the weekends.

Finally stop the chewing, jumping, biting , barking, whining, etc.

When you find the right obedience dog training course for you and your pet, you may be wondering what to expect. The trouble is, you never know what you are getting unless you ask. Many courses cover the basics of teaching your dog to heed your command, no matter what that command may be. They may teach the basics that most of us are familiar with, including sitting, heeling, and to stop barking. You may also find out secrets on how to stop aggressive behavior against other dogs and human beings.

If you and your dog have gone through obedience dog training, but things are still looking dim, you may need to find someone to work one on one with you and your pet. This type of obedience dog training may cost you a little more money, but you may end up with more bang for your buck this way.
