Training Questions: How can I make my dog more obedient without being too mean?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by Foxy: How can I make my German Shepherd more obedient without being too mean?
My German Shepherd is a pure bred black lab and she turned one year old on Valentine’s Day. It seems that she listens to men better than women. Sometimes she will leave and start chewing up things and I yell for her to come back up and she just ignores me. How can I make her more respectful and obedient to my commands? Are there things I could do that I would not regret doing later?

Being mean is not the answer to obedience. Training is the key to an obedient German Shepherd! Take your German Shepherd to a training class.

Advertising! any form is helpful. Go out out and put some posters. Have a street party and encourage people to bring their German Shepherds. Remember that you have to spend money to make money. Try sponsoring a sports team. Get on the local radio and get them to promote your buisness. It’s all about getting people to remember your company’s name.

Question by Chetco: Why do some expect the German Shepherd Puppy to be smarter, better mannered, more obedient than they were as a toddler?
Don’t they realize that this is a baby animal, with less intelligence than most people?
The dog’s first language is ‘whine-whine, growl, woof-woof’ they have a whole new language to learn, and a whole new set of rules.
Even more puzzling is the people who think they will learn everything without any training.
When I advise askers to ask their mom how long it took to train them…or to put themselves in the dog’s place, and try to think as the dog would..they send me nasty emails, claiming that I am stupid, and much worse.
I feel like I should stop answering questions, because I can’t lie.
Maybe I’ll find another topic to answer….sigh

How can I make my puppy more obedient?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by Stasia: How can I make my German Shepherd Puppy more obedient?
He understand commands, but he’s trying to be dominant by only listening when he wants to. most of the time he’s good, but when he’s mo9re interested in something else, he’ll completely ignore me. Also, when giving him commands, I have to repeat it for him when a more well-behaved German Shepherd Puppy listens the first time. How can I make him listen?

Your German Shepherd Puppy isn’t trying to be dominant! You’ ve taught him to ignore you by repeating your commands. All German Shepherd puppies, including more well-behaved German Shepherd puppies, have to be taught correctly. Once you’re 100% sure that your German Shepherd Puppy understands the command, you NEVER repeat it, you give a correction (and keep it very mild, you’re dealing with a German Shepherd Puppy).
You sound like you really would benefit from classes and your German Shepherd Puppy most definitely would. He’ll get socializing he needs and you’ll have a qualified instructor to teach you how train.

She is SO hyper, and she never listens. My mom is the best at training her, but she doesn’t have time. My dad is too nice, and he doesn’t have time either. So I have to. I need to make her more obedient!
