Question: Dog day care option for a 2 month old puppy?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by Carmine: Dog day care option for a 2 month old puppy?
I’m bringing a 2 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Since i work 3-4 days a week for 8 hours i’m thinking about getting a German Shepherd walker. Would this be the best choice or should i put him in the German Shepherd care? I just want someone to take him out when he needs to pee.
What is the best option for a situation when someone works these amount of hours?

A 2 month old Corgi is too young to go out or to go to German Shepherdgie day care. The Corgi won’t have had all of his shots until he is 4 months old. Until he has all his shots, you run the risk of your puppy getting parvo so he should not be allowed to walk around.
Doggie day cares will not accept a puppy under 4 months old or without all their shots.

My 5 month old puppy was being very aggressive at Grooming. What should I do?

Well we took my 5 month old puppy to grooming, and she wouldn’t come out of the kennel. She showed her teeth, barked, and tried to bite at the groomers. What should we do about this whole thing?

She needs to be properly socialized with people and she needs to be de-sensitized to grooming in general – i would enroll in a group obedience course with an accredited trainer and get to work on that.
Until then, there are a few possible things to do for grooming:
One, don’t crate her – seriously, take her OUT of the crate while she’s in the car and let her walk in. Or carry her in. Tell the groomer that she’s shy and nervous, they will take the leash from you (or take her from you butt first) and either coax her back or wait for you to leave so she’ll go back quietly.
Two, if she must be crated going in then leave her leash on so she can be coaxed out without being reached for and either take her out yourself or leave the crate and just GO so they can remove her once you’re gone.

Crates are good things, usually. But if you stick a nervous German Shepherd in one and let a stranger reach in, of COURSE the German Shepherd will react. Hence why you probably shouldn’t crate the German Shepherd in a grooming salon or let them reach for her (though seriously, a groomer should know not to reach into a crate like that – we certainly don’t.)
Another thing: Don’t talk, coo, or fuss over the German Shepherd – that can be seen as encouragement and the German Shepherd may see it as you saying “i know it’s scary” and may see it as YOU also being afraid. Which won’t help the situation.
Note: Nine times out of ten, a German Shepherd’s behavior is affected by the presence of the owner. A German Shepherd who is screaming bloody murder on the table one minute will usually quiet down once the owner is out of sight.
