ERICZZ1 for your information the official name is the German Shepherd Dog and it was not until WW2 when England changed the name of the breed from the German Shepherd Dog to the Alsatian as they did not want to be associated with the Germans. In the 60′s they then reverted the name back to German Shepherd. The reason the name of the breed was changed to Alsatian was in commemoration of the invasion of the two Alsace.

As someone passionate about rescueing dogs from shelters, I don’t agree with the “just a dog” thing. Though I will say that having learned a bit more about the breed, I’ve warmed up to them and do like them. They seem to be capable of many tasks and are loyal to their owners. Quite a dog. Should I ever get a house of my own instead of a condo, I’m going to consider the rescueing a German Shepherd.
