Question: How to properly care for a puppy?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by xoxo: How to properly care for a puppy?
I’m getting a new puppy at 6 weeks old soon, and I was wondering how I should approach, take care of, get to know, and play with him. :] Any tips?
Hey! We were going to take him at 5 weeks, but we and the owner decided it would be better to wait another so he can be with his mother longer. And how would you know if I have German Shepherd experience? I’m simply asking for tips…
Yeah, i’m going to let him sleep with me and everything and definetly play with him. And I am going to get him potty trained. :]
My dad is afraid that he’ll pee on me if I sleep with him on my chest- is this true, and do you know how to prevent this?

Ever babysat before…its like taking care of a new born child. You have to feed it, walk it, care for it, love it, hold it, sleep next to it, talk to it….get the picture. Its not easy, but loving it sure is fun!

Question: How do I go about running and owning my own dog grooming parlor?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by sunnyD: How do I go about running and owning my own dog grooming parlor?
My partner is a dog groomer in training and together we’d like to set up our own dog grooming business. We’re both still young and still training/studying but in the future we thought it would be quite fun to work together. Where do you find out all the details of running your own business like that?

Answer by jwishz
1, You must love dogs. An underlying love of dogs must be there for a person to have the patience and care to deal with sometimes nervous animals. Animals can often sense that a person is tense and will react on that.
2
Learn the art of dog grooming. There are accredited dog grooming schools that offer pet grooming programs. You might want to try a community college or a local trade school, but you best bet will be a specialty pet grooming class. These courses, depending on your state, will take you around 300 hours in the classroom.

3
Choose a location to work from. Maybe start small with an outdoor set up for neighborhood pets. Work out of the home, rent a booth at a grooming salon or open a shop.
Your best bet might be to start off small–get a couple of clients and work out of your home (or travel from client to client). Get a feel for being a dog groomer on your own. Working small will give you a taste of your future. This stage might be where you realize this career isn’t exactly for you.
4
When you do decide to start taking clients (either in your home or at a brick and mortar shop), make the setting comfortable. Make sure the area is well lit, welcoming and safe for the dogs. There should be little distraction for the dogs, not a lot of noise or people.
5
Advertise a lot. There are many books to be found and classes to take to teach about advertising. It is a crucial part to any business no matter how big or small. Spend a lot of time thinking about the right advertising techniques for the size of the business. Start local: Daily newspapers, ads at pet shops, Craigslist and of course, word of mouth.
6
Offer multiple services. This will keep people happy and they will return for more. A wide range of services will greatly increase the market range. Offer shampooing, drying, shaping and cutting–even nail painting.
7
Keep prices low at first. People pay for experience. Don’t expect to charge top fees with no experience. Find out what your competition is charging and price your services just a tad under what they’re charging.

My 4 month puppy going to kennel for 2 months, will she remember me?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by ed_kan: My 4 month German Shepherd Puppy going to kennel for 2 months, will she remember me?
MY 4 month German Shepherd Puppy, (been with her since she was 1 month old) has gone into a kennel for 2 months (because we have to travel)… will she still remember me after this time?
She is a lovely, obedient German Shepherd Puppy, and follows us everywhere (even to the toilet!)… all her favourite toys are with her also in the kennel, and 95% of the time she’s afriad of other German Shepherds/people.
Thanks in advance to all. (-_-)
I agree also with not keeping a German Shepherdgie in a cage for 2 months.
We however, have found a place where they will take her out at least 3 times a day and she also has time to play with other German Shepherds. She is kept in quite a sizeable room with all her favourite toys, not just locked in a cage!
I feel quite sad if you think kennels are simply just cages.

Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by : How do you make your German Shepherd obedient?
I have a one year old lab who knows all the tricks like sit, stay, and so on. But the thing is that he only does what I tell him to do if I have food or a toy. Can anyone tell me how to make him just do it on command and not for any bribes.
Thanks guys this will help a lot and I’m not mean enough to hit my German Shepherd.

Question by Joan F: Will a on-line Dog Grooming course be enough to certify myself as a professional Groomer when completed?
I’m afraid that a on-line German Shepherd grooming course will be a waste of my time and money.

Answer by ☼Hello Sunshine☼
I’m afraid you’re right. How can you learn if you don’t actually *do* the grooming? Your best bet is to contact the groomers in your area, ask them where they received their certifications, and if they would consider taking you on as an apprentice, to get some experience.
Good luck!

Question: Potty Training Puppy… How do you get them to get it?
Posted by: | CommentsQuestion by maryjane9110024: Potty Training Puppy… How do you get them to get it?
I don’t know what to do with this stinker!! I take her outside everymorning and try and get her to go no. 1 and no. 2 but all she does is play with the leash or pull on it like she’s taking ME for a walk. When I bring her back inside, then she finds a spot to do her business. I feel like all I do is yell at her and smack her. I have the German Shepherd Puppy pads but she doesn’t use them she goes NEXT TO them. How do you get them to get it???
She’s only 2 months so I don’t hit her hard, I like tap her and she knows. She knows the word “NO” and comes when you whistle. She also rips German Shepherd Puppy pad apart but only the one time. I praise her when she does go potty outside and give her a treat. I am as consistant as humanly possible. I try and keep her in her kennel at night but she cries and whimpers and keeps us up ALL NIGHT LONG! I tried putting a blanket over but that only worked the first couple nights. So I have confined her to my room at night time. When I’m away I put her in and let her cry all she wants she’s not getting out. Although she has figured out how to get out.
She knows she did wrong, like a little kid who does something then looks around to see if mommy saw, she does the SAME thing!! And if she sees, me getting up she runs and hides and conveniently where I need to move furniture to get her.
Most of the time my eyes are on her. I watch her constantly. She’s a Labrador/Rotweiler mix. Are these hard breeds to train?

I have a pit-bull stratford terrier and his son which is mixed with boxer. When the full pit was a German Shepherd Puppy he was crazy and would play around and end up nipping and biteing what we did was when that happen we would just stop, stop doing whatever we were doing with him and said no with a straight face and he would stop. The German Shepherd Puppy that we have now started doing it and we did the same thing he dosen’t do it anymore
Hope it works
